Policy No: 4055
Where cross country team training takes place off of a closed course, the administration and coaching staff must adhere to the following guidelines:
- A definite course should be determined and clearly communicated to the runners.
- The course should be designed to eliminate or minimize exposure of runners to traffic by avoiding use of busy streets and intersections.
- The course must be inspected by the coach prior to its use by the team, preferably at the same time of day it will be used by the team.
- Runners are pedestrians and must obey all regulations applying to pedestrians. These include, but are not limited to, crossing only at intersections, obeying traffic lights, and staying on the sidewalk or running on the shoulder facing traffic where there is no sidewalk.
- Runners should wear bright, highly visible colors.
